Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother

Lucille M. (Soucy) Vail, age 74, a longtime resident of Lowell passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 14th 2025. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John Vail. They were married for 51 years.

She was born in Lowell on January 16th, 1951, and was the daughter of the late Maurice L. Soucy and Pauline R. (Belleville) Soucy. She received her education at Ste Jeanne D’Arc School and was a graduate of St Joseph’s High School.

Lucille worked as a nurse’s assistant at various nursing homes in Lowell. She was a dietary aid at Lowell General hospital before leaving in 1973 to pursue her lifelong dream of being a wife, mother and homemaker.

She was tremendously devoted to her Catholic Faith. She was faithful to Our Lord and the Blessed Mother even up to the last moments of her life, having watched Gaudete Sunday Mass, prayed the Holy Rosary and said the Divine Mercy Chaplet hours before her passing.

Lucille was devoted to many Saints and would say special prayers and devotions every evening that would take hours to accomplish.

She was in the Legion of Mary for several decades, a catechism teacher at St. Rita’s in Lowell, a volunteer at Heartbeat International in Billerica and a prayer warrior for her loved ones as well as for people she didn’t even know.

Lucille was a selfless and thoughtful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.

Her life was devoted to her family. She would say the best days of her life were when she had a baby in her arms and that she would go back to those days in a heartbeat.

Lucille is survived by her two sons, Raymond J. Vail, III and his wife Sherrold of Lowell, and Bristan R.J. Vail of Lowell and his girlfriend Lauren George; one daughter, Bridie M. Kingsley and her husband Douglas of Norfolk, MA; ten grandchildren, Nicole Leo, Callen Vail, Sabrina Jenkins, Molly Vail, Adeline Medina, Patrick Vail, Jayden Whitcomb, Laylanie Whitcomb, Madilyn Vail and Mary Grace Kingsley; six great grandchildren, Evan Leo, Owen Leo, Donovan Jenkins, Damian Jenkins, Meadow Vail and one yet to be born, Amelia Medina; seven siblings, Roland Soucy and his wife Theresa, Suzanne Whitman and her husband Leo, Therese Veiga, Rita Pinard and her husband Jean, Aline Frawley, Doris Soucy and her fiance Frank Black, and Lucien Soucy and his wife Sharon; two sisters-in-law, Rachael Ducharme of Westford and Trudy Vail Michel of Lowell; two brothers-in-law, Chuck Vail of Chillicothe, IL and Joe Vail of Lowell; also many nieces and nephews.
