Lucien A. Cormier, 59, a lifelong Lowell resident died, Thursday June 11, 2009 at Saints Medical Center.

Born in Lowell on December 6, 1949, he was a son of Carmen (Lepine) Cormier of Lowell who survives him, and the late Fernand Cormier.

Big Lou was an avid baseball player for many years in the city. More recently he enjoyed playing golf.

He served in the United States Army during Vietnam and earned the Army Commendation medal in 1970 for exceptionally meritorious service.

He was a loving father and will be dearly missed by his daughters and grandchildren.

Surviving him besides his mother are three daughters, Hope and Reggie Smith of Nashua, NH, Lou-Ann and Robert Belanger of Dracut, Katherine and Derek Perrin of Lowell; a brother and sister in law, Fernand, Jr. and Marie-Elaine Cormier of Lowell; a sister and brother in law, Priscilla and Roberto Oyola of Lowell; seven grandchildren, Jaden, Isaac, Andrew, Gabrielle, Darius, Sophia and Mathew; his aunt, Sr. Lucielle Cormier of Holy Cross College, Worcester; nieces and nephews, Kristine, Kevin, Adam, Ashlee, Sadie and Jordyn.
