Loyce E. (Thomas) Gagnon

June 11, 1933 — September 28, 2017

Loyce Elizabeth (Thomas) Gagnon (born June 11, 1933) passed away peacefully on September 28th from the complications of her 25-year-battle with multiple myeloma. She died at home surrounded by her loving family. Loyce was born and raised in Dracut, MA where she spent her entire life. She was the beloved wife and eternal sweetheart of Harvey J. Gagnon. They were married in 1953 and, through good times and bad, raised seven children.
Loyce was one of six children born to the late Merrill G. and Natalie (Reed) Thomas. She graduated from Dracut High School, and worked as a school bus driver for A.J. Gagnon & Sons, Inc. for over 40 years.
In addition to overseeing her large and ever-growing family, she enjoyed many talents and interests, including playing the piano, country line dancing, traveling with Harvey, overseeing and maintaining their homestead, and especially spending time in the barn at Pleasant View Farm with all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She will live forever in the hearts of her devoted children: Harvey (Joe) Gagnon. Jr. (and wife Karen), Michele Gagnon (and husband Jim Coates), Kimberly Kelley (and husband Mike), Leslie Cox (and husband Bob), Kellie Matte (and husband Ted), Melanie Hire (and husband John), and Natalie Brown (and husband Paul).
Nana will be greatly missed by her 19 cherished grandchildren: Melissa Alexa (and husband Jay), Michael Gagnon (and wife Linda), Kerrie Gagnon, Jeremy Auger (and LeaAnn Hubert), Jonathon Costos (and wife Amber), Joseph Cox (and wife Catie), Kaitlyn Moriarty (and husband Sean), Robert (Bobbo) Cox (and wife Jessica), Patrick Cox, Theodore (T.J.) Matte III (and wife Katie), Grace Matte, Timothy Hire, Lindsey Hire, Jeffrey Hire, Paul Brown, Logan Brown, Troy Brown, Elizabeth Brown and Reed Brown. Her 12 great-grandchildren include Coby, Jaycob and Kali Alexa; Ryleigh, Paige, Cole, and Drew Gagnon; Bellajean Costos; Ethan and Felicity Cox; Theodore (Teddy) Matte; and Ryan Brown.
Her surviving siblings are sister, Ruth E. Dunfey, and brothers, Herbert A. Thomas (and wife Peg) and Richard H. Thomas, as well as many nieces, great-nieces, nephews, and great-nephews. Her brothers Merrill G. Thomas, and David R. Thomas predeceased her.
She touched the lives of many people throughout the years, including our Ecuadorean high school exchange student and now adopted family member, Tatiana Daza (and Bill Zeledon), and son, Zak Zeledon, along with countless friends and neighbors who were blessed to know her.
Special thanks to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, especially Dr. Reed Drews, Anna (Tina) Gramm, and Dr. Lisa Gilbert for their expert and compassionate care over these many years, along with Merrimack Valley Hospice Care for their professional supervision of Loyce's end-of-life medical support.
