Lester W. "Bill" Monette

DRACUT - Lester W. "Bill" Monette, Jr., 88, a longtime resident of Dracut passed away on February 11, 2021. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara L. (Gill) Monette who died in 1997.

He was born in Lowell on April 11, 1932, the son of the late Lester W. Monette, Sr. and the late Beatrice (Gaudette) Monette. He received his education in Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School, Class of 1950, where he played saxophone in the marching band.

Bill proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed for over 35 years as a salesman for Merrimac Rug & Linoleum Co. in Lowell.

He was a longtime communicant of St. Francis Church in Dracut and a member of the Dracut American Legion, Post 315.

In his early years, Bill grew up spending summers horseback riding on his family's horse farms in Lowell and Chelmsford.

He and his wife were avid bowlers in their younger years and were very active in Dracut Pop Warner, where he served as treasurer.

Bill's greatest joy in life was spending time in the company of his loving family.

Loving father of his six children, Anne Marie Condike and her husband Richard of Quincy, Michael Monette and his significant other, Jan Hampton of TN, Karen Gallagher of Lowell, Daniel Monette and his wife Kimberly of Dracut, William Monette and his wife Lisa of Dracut, and Timothy Monette and his wife Susan of Pelham, NH; sixteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; his brother, Edmund Monette of Hampton, NH; his sister, Beatrice Keyes of Kennesaw, GA; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also the father-in-law of the late Walter Gallagher, Jr..
