Lowell - Leo L. Morrissette, 83, husband of Aurore J. (Lafortune) Morrissette, a resident of the Centralville section of Lowell, died Monday morning at a local nursing home.
He was born in Lowell on December 21, 1920, a son of the late Philippe and Angeline (Duplessis) Morrissette.
Mr. Morrissette was a WWII veteran, having served in the US Army, Company C 175th Engineer General Service Regiment. His battles and campaigns include Tunisia, Sicily, Naples Foggia, Rome Arno, North Appenines, and Po Valley. He was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon.
Prior to his retirement he was employed for 39 years as a stitcher at the former Scotty Shoe. He was a communicant of St. Louis de France Church, a member of the Association of Miraculous Medal, and a member of the East End Club.
Surviving him besides his wife of 58 years, are a son Ronald L. Morrissette and his wife Estelle of Dracut; a foster son Austin LaRoque and his wife Rose of Beverly; a sister and brother in law Alice and Normand Turgeon of Litchfield,NH; three grandchildren Kimberly Gauthier, Laurie Morrissette, and Ronald L. Morrissette, Jr.; three foster grandchildren, Michelle Anderson, Leo LaRoque, and Michael LaRoque; three great grandchildren, Alexandra Suppa, Matthew and Tyler Gauthier. He was also the brother of the late Angele Morrissette, Lillian Mousseau, Robert Morrissette, Marcel Morrissette.
