OBITUARY
LOWELL - Leo "Bob" Laird, 81, a resident of the Centralville section of Lowell, died Thursday, November 11, 2004 at the Merrimack Valley Hospital, Haverhill. He was the husband of Helen M. (O'Connor) Laird R.N. with whom he celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on July 10, 2004.
Born in Lowell on April 2, 1923, he was a son of the late Robert J. and Mary Ellen (Toohey) Laird.
Mr. Laird was a graduate of St. Michael Parochial School and the Lowell Vocational School.
Mr. Laird served overseas with the United States Army as a Sergeant during World War II.
Prior to his retirement in 1990, he was employed by the Lowell Gas Company with 49 years of service.
He was a communicant of St. Michael Church and was a member of the Parish Holy Name Society. He was also a life member of the East End Club and the Lowell Lodge of Elks.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Nancy (Dexter) Laird of Dracut; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary M. and Michael J. Callery of Lowell and Jayne M. and Scott R. Hoffman of Dracut; a brother and his wife, John "Jack" and Lorraine Laird of Dracut; two sisters and their husbands, Patricia and Charles Gearin and Esther and Daniel Degan, all of Lowell; eight grandchildren, Thomas Laird Jr. of Lowell, Rev. Michael J. Laird and his wife Laura (Corcoran) of Danvers, Kelly A. Laird, Catherine D. Callery, Sean P. Callery, Timothy S. Callery and Conor M. Callery, all of Lowell and Scott R. Hoffman of Dracut; two great grandsons, Samuel and Benjamin Laird, both of Danvers; a brother-in-law, George H. Hadfield of Dracut; several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Robert G. "Bobby" Laird who died May 10, 2004, brother of the late Ann E. Greene and Dorothy F. Hadfield, and brother-in-law of the late L. Philip Greene.
