DRACUT - Leo P. Chasse Jr., 72, a resident of Dracut, died unexpectedly Saturday, June 26, 2021. He was the beloved husband of the late Sandra S. (Christman) Chasse, who died in 2019.
He was born in Lowell on August 23, 1948 and was a son of the late Wilhemina (Lavoie) and Leo P. Chasse Sr.. He received his education in Lowell and immediately went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy.
After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Leo went on to build a successful structural steel business, where he worked for the next 30 years. After retirement, he was able to find a new passion in the sport of horse racing. Leo owned and raced over 30 different thoroughbreds, from New York to Florida. On any given day he could be found at the racetrack watching his horses win, or working in his barn. He loved playing piano and guitar, but more than anything he loved spending time with his family.
Leo is survived and will be deeply missed by his two children, Diane Jean and her husband Kevin of Pelham, NH and Daniel Chasse and his wife Jessica of Dracut; his two step-daughters, Crystal Bellemare of Nashua, NH and Shaina Fuhs and her fiancé William Bradley of Merrimack, NH; seven grandchildren, Stephen, Kimberly, Allison, Daniel, Logan, Gage and Julianna; his two sisters, Marguerite Laurencelle and Eva Patenaude; as well as several nieces, nephews, family and friends. He is predeceased by Diane and Daniel's mother, Francine (Hamm) Leighton and his brother, Lawrence.
Relatives and friends are invited to Leo's Life Celebration on Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 4 until 8 PM at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, July 2, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Parish, 95 Lakeview Avenue, Tyngsboro. Interment to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford.
