Kathleen H. (Hughes) Long

Kathleen H. (Hughes) Long, a resident of Westford, died on Friday April 19, 2013 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with her family by her side. She was 62.
She was born on October 20, 1950 in Bronxville, New York, a daughter of the late Edwin G. Hughes, Jr. and Irene B. (Bobrowsky) Hughes of Manchester, NH who survives her.
Kathy graduated from high school in Ossining, NY and received a bachelor of Education from Annhurst College in Woodstock, CT. Kathy taught at St. Theresa's School in Briarcliff, NY for several years, and received a Master of Special Education from State University of New York (SUNY) in Purchase, NY.
Kathy focused her attention to raising a family when she moved to the Boston area, became active as a community volunteer and was the Director of Contemplative Outreach of New England. She then received a Master of Theology from Boston College.
For the past 11 years Kathy has served as a Pastoral Associate and the Director of Religious Education at St. Francis Parish in Dracut. Her ministry was an amazing testimony of faith, prayer, spiritual commitment, guidance, and relentless dedication to the community of St. Francis Parish.
While there, she organized and directed the Wednesday Bible Study, Contemplative Prayer, Wine Woman and the Word, Rosary Prayer Group, Grief Support Group, Divorce Support Group, the Vacation Bible School, and the CCD programs at St. Francis Parish.
Kathy enjoyed gardening, reading and knitting in her spare time. She loved the beach and vacationing with her family whenever her time would allow.
Surviving her besides her mother are three children, Travis C. Long, Kristine E. Long, and Kelley K. Long, all of Westford; a brother Edwin G. Hughes, III of Manchester, NH; two sisters and brothers in law, Joan and Dave Evans of Burke, VA, Margaret and Tom Blundon of Niantic, CT; nieces and nephews, Jessica Wester and her husband Matt, Kari Evans, Brett Evans, Shane Donohue; a grandniece August Wester; and many dear friends.
