Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother
Catherine “Kay” E. Fitzpatrick, of Lowell’s Christian Hill, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 7, surrounded by her loving family. She was reunited with her beloved husband, Charlie—the love of her life and her greatest companion.
Born and raised in Lowell, Kay was cherished by all who knew her. She was the daughter of Robert and Ethel (Moore) Webster, both of whom predeceased her. Kay attended St. Patrick’s School and later graduated from Notre Dame Academy. Soon after, she met Charlie Fitzpatrick, and in February of 1961 the two were married, beginning a lifetime of love, devotion, and partnership that shaped every chapter of her life.
Kay dedicated more than twenty years to the Lowell school system, where she became affectionately known as “Mrs. Fitz” while working at the Robinson and Pyne Schools. She was a steady, loving presence to students, staff, and families, offering comfort, kindness, and unwavering support. Her warm spirit, gentle humor, and natural ability to make others feel valued made her a beloved pillar of the community. She will be remembered for her compassion, her quiet strength, and her boundless capacity to love. Her legacy of kindness lives on in the countless lives she touched.
Kay and Charlie shared a deep love of travel and adventure. Together they explored Ireland, England, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Ukraine; journeys filled with treasured memories and dear friends. She even traveled to Ethiopia to visit family, embracing new cultures and experiences with an open heart. She took great pride in her Irish heritage as a longtime member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. She never missed an opportunity to cheer on her children, whether at tennis courts, hockey rinks, baseball diamonds, basketball courts, football fields, or dance recital halls…a tradition she joyfully continued with all her grandchildren. She delighted in spoiling her grandchildren and great‑grandchildren, often helping with homework while treating them to homemade chocolate frappes. She also loved playing games of all kinds and taught her children from an early age how to play cribbage and Scrabble, creating memories they carried with them throughout their lives.
Kay was predeceased by her sisters Valerie (Webster) Ouellette and Cynthia Webster; her brother Robert Webster; and her sisters‑in‑law Linda (Fitzpatrick) Beaudry and Colleen (Fitzpatrick) Matte. She was also predeceased by her dearest friend, Betty McNamara, with whom she shared an extraordinary, sister‑like friendship that spanned more than sixty years, filled with laughter, stories, and endless conversations.
She is survived by her children: Maura Fitzpatrick; Brian and Lucy (Dias) Fitzpatrick of Lowell, MA; C. Daniel Fitzpatrick and his partner, Lila Nelson; and Stephen and Agata (Wróbel) Fitzpatrick of North Conway, NH.
Kay leaves behind her grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to her life:Patrick and Cathryn McCarthy, Meghan (McCarthy) McCoy, Annie (McCarthy) Ducey, and Charles, Anna Louise, Colin, Aidan, Alicja, Jack, and Alexander Fitzpatrick; as well as her five great‑grandchildren: Brady, Jaxon, Sunni, Nelly, and Ryder. She was predeceased by her beloved granddaughter, MacKenzie Fitzpatrick. She also leaves her former son‑in‑law, Peter McCarthy of Hudson, NH.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to their wonderful neighbors on Christian Hill, with special thanks to Ray and Michelle Harvey and their family for their exceptional kindness and support. They also wish to express their deepest appreciation to the staff at the Giving Tree, whose care, compassion, and attentiveness went far beyond anything they could have hoped for during Kay’s final months.
Kay is now reunited with Charlie, held once again in the loving arms where she always longed to be.
