LOWELL - Karen A. Powers, 57, a resident of the Belvidere neighborhood in Lowell, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House.Born in Lowell on January 28, 1960, she was a daughter of the late James E. Powers and Barbara A. (Kenney) Powers, who survives her. Karen was raised in Pelham, NH and was a graduate of Pelham High School, Class of 1978. She received an Associates Degree from Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill. Karen then attended school to become a hair stylist, a profession she excelled at and loved. She was currently employed as a Master Stylist for the Lauren Craig Salon in Wayland, MA. Karen enjoyed traveling, reading, and giving of her time to charitable organizations. What Karen loved most and what she truly dedicated her life to was spending time with and offering support to her family and friends - all of whom loved her dearly and were by her side throughout her illness. This was a tribute to the love and care she always gave.
Her family would like to thank Karen's healing support team, Drs Brennan and Ardman, the doctors, nurses and staff at both the Lowell General Hospital Cancer Center and the Merrimack Valley Hospice House for the compassionate care given to Karen during her time of illness.
Karen is survived by her mother, Barbara A. (Kenney) Powers and her companion, Guy Murgo of Seabrook, NH, three brothers and their wives, Michael D. and Sharon Powers of Manchester, NH, Larry M. and Joanne Powers of West Medford and James B. and Peggyjane Powers of Falmouth, ME; nieces and nephews, Angela, Chris, Katie, Meaghan, Mike, Casey, Julia, Seamus, Emma and Candice; two grandnephews, Charlie and Henry; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. She was the sister of the late Joanne M. (Powers) Borges.
