Julia D. (Cunha) Jean

May 29, 1937 — August 30, 2017

Julia D. (Cunha) Jean, a longtime resident of Dracut, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at Palm Center Nursing Home after a period of declining health. She was 80.

Born in Lowell on May 29, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Anthony Cunha and the late Lydia (Pires) Zemetres.

She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was educated in Lowell and worked for many years as a secretary at Hanscom Air Force Base and University of Massachusetts at Lowell prior to her retirement.

Julie loved reading, especially to her nieces and nephews with whom she would sit and read bedtime stories. Julie belonged to the Red Hat Society and loved to put her own personal touch on things. She enjoyed sewing and made a lot of her own clothing. She also enjoyed knitting and toll painting and making special gifts for family and friends. She was an excellent cook and many in the family still remember her special mini cheesecakes. She also liked quiet nights watching old movies. Julie also had a love of the ocean and loved listening to the sound of the waves. She enjoyed and looked forward to traveling especially to Hawaii and Ogunquit, Maine.

Survivors include her son, David Jean and Kate Shiel of Dracut; a granddaughter, Ruby Jean; sisters and brothers and their spouses, Ruth Ann Zemetres and Nancy Deobil of Old Orchard Beach, ME, Patricia Rousseau of Lowell, William and Elizabeth Zemetres of Pelham, NH, Ronnie and Rita Zemetres of FL; her former husband of 40 years, Donald Jean of Dracut; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Lydia Zemetres.

The family of Julie Jean would like to express their gratitude and sincere thanks to Palm Center Nursing home where she resided for many years and a special thanks to Maria Messenheimer for the special care Julie received and to Donna Jean for the many years of love, compassion and friendship she gave her.
