Joyce C. Cerand

Joyce C. (Martineau) Cerand, age 69, died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at home. She was the beloved wife of Stephen L. Cerand, with whom she was married to for 41 years.

Born in Lowell on February 17, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Rose (Hall) and Robert Martineau. She worked in electronics assembly and repair at Wang Labs and other hi-tech employers before her marriage and motherhood. Her favorite gig was raising her sons, loving her husband and spending time with her grandchildren, often while enjoying the excitement and drama of playing board and card games.

Despite her many orthopedic issues and associated pain she endured without complaint, she used her outgoing personality to become a fixture in downtown Lowell. As she walked her dogs through the neighborhood, she would continue to expand her social circle to include a large community to two and four legged friends.

In addition to her husband, Stephen, Joyce is survived by her two sons, Lee Cerand and his wife, Jennifer of Webster and Seth Cerand of Providence, RI; her three grandchildren, Jacob, Sadie and Veda; her brother, Dennis Martineau and his wife Deborah; her sister, Donna Demange and her husband, Gerard; as well as many other family and friends.

A service will be held in Joyce’s memory at ST. ANNE’S CHURCH, 8 Kirk Street, Lowell at 4 PM on June 4, 2025. A celebration of life will be schedule in the coming months to allow a larger gathering of friends and family located both locally and around the country. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joyce’s memory to the Lowell Humane Society, 951 Broadway Street, Lowell, MA 01854.
