Joseph "Arthur" Tousignant, a Dracut resident and beloved husband of the late Marie "Rita" (Martel) Tousignant, with whom he was married for 67 years at the time of her death in 2016, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2017. He was 95.
Born in Lowell on May 7, 1922, he was a son of the late Alcide and Merilda (Perreault) Tousignant.
Arthur was a WWII Veteran, having served in the Navy, as a Machinist First Mate stationed in the Admiralty Islands. He was a machinist having worked for the Jerguson Gage & Valve Company of Burlington, retiring in 1986. Prior to that he was the owner and operator of a family business, Tousignant's Market on Back Central Street in Lowell.
A resident of Dracut for the past 60 years, Arthur was a communicant of Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Parish. He was also a member of the Dracut Senior Citizen Club, Disabled American Veterans Post 25 of Lowell, International Association of Machinists and United Commercial Travelers for more than 60 years.
Arthur leaves two sons and their spouses, Henry and Susan Tousignant of Dracut, MA and Robert and Andrea Tousignant of Hudson, NH; grandchildren, Jaime, Jeffrey, Michael and his wife Emily, Robbie and his wife Ashley, Kelly Palm and her husband Derek, Matthew and his wife Deni; Three great grandsons, Liam, Calvin and Ethan; a niece, Yvette Fortier; a sister-in-law, Lena Tousignant; also many nieces and nephews. Arthur was predeceased by his daughter, Claire Tousignant, and brothers and sisters Armand, Omer, Delard, Henry, Jeannine Tousignant, and Cecile Vigeant.
