Joseph H. "Fernand" "Sonny" Thellen, 89, died on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of his first wife, Estelle F. (Morin) Thellen who predeceased him in 1991 and his late wife Maria J. Morrow until her passing in 2008.
He was born in Lowell on September 17, 1932 and was a son of the late Yvonne (Fortin) and Albini Thellen. He received his education in Lowell and afterwards proudly went on to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean conflict.
Joseph cherished spending quality time with his family. He loved doing all puzzles, whether is was a cross word, word search or jigsaw, playing cards and especially enjoyed electric trains.
Joseph is survived and will be deeply missed by his four children, Leda (Thellen) DeSousa and her husband Lino, Victor Thellen and his wife Ann, Robert Thellen and Roland Thellen all of Lowell; his four grandchildren, Amy Desjardins and her husband James, Dawn Marvin and her husband Shawn, Jonathan DeSousa and his wife Amanda and Sarah Melican and her husband Tim; his seven great-grandchildren, Paige, Max, Brodie, Amelia, Emily, Mia and Cora; his brother, Albert Thellen of Rochester, NH; his close friend, Jackie Gregoire; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Raymond Thellen and the brother of the late Gerard, Joseph, Roger, Maurice and Normand Thellen and Theresa Snell.
Relatives and friends are invited to Joseph's Life Celebration on Sunday, May 22, 2022 from 2 until 6 PM at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 12 PM in St. Michael Church, Lowell. Burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford.
