Joseph A. Prud'homme

Joseph A. Prud’homme, age 92, died on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 surrounded by family at Lowell General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Esther M. (Watson) Prud’homme, with whom he shared 69 years of marriage.

Born in Lowell on March 26, 1933, he was the son of the late Anita Bertha (Prive) and Japhet Prud’homme. He was raised and educated in Lowell and attended St. Louis School and graduated from Lowell Trade School. He retired from New England Telephone Company/Verizon in 1996 after working for 34 years, where he worked as an auto mechanic.

Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1952 until 1956, during the Korean War.

He was a parishioner of St. Louis Church and later a parishioner of Ste. Marguerite d’Youville, where he ushered. Joseph was also a member of the Passe Time Club and the Lafayette Club, where he was known as “the Devil” when it came to the big high stakes poker games.

Joseph was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan and loved to catch the games on the television, where his sanctioned “remote control” was not to be touched.

In addition to his wife, Esther, Joseph is survived by his five children, Michael Prud’homme and his wife, Denise of Hudson, NH, Steven Prud’homme and his wife, Claire of Salem, NH, Linda Nadeau and her husband, Richard “Chet” of Dracut, June Rapp and her husband, George of Lowell, Karyn Force of Maynard; his eight grandchildren, Holly and her husband, Eric, Casey and her husband, Greg, Michael, Brian and his wife, Jen, Adam and his wife, Julie, Jason, Justen and Treven; his eight great-grandchildren, Nathan, Lily, Latham, Melody, Tessa, Evan, Nicole and Eric; his sisters, Julie Comtois, Sister Irene and Laura Brodeur; his brother, Paul Prud’homme; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Theresa Keough, Alice Abreau, Doris Norwood and Robert, Fred, Raymond, Hector and George Prud’homme.

Relatives and friends are invited to Joseph’s Funeral Mass on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at 11 AM in STE. MARGUERITE d’YOUVILLE CHURCH, 1340 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joseph’s memory to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Inc., WEB PO Box 7410354, Chicago, IL 60674-0354.
