LOWELL - Joseph H. Lajoie, 92, a resident of the Centralville section of Lowell, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2017, at the Lowell General Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Claire (Lafontaine) Lajoie who passed in 2006 and to whom he was happily married for 50 years.
Born in Lowell on January 20, 1925, he was the son of the late Arthur and Aldea (Hamelin) Lajoie.
Mr. Lajoie attended Lowell Schools and following graduation from High School, he enlisted with the United States Army. He served during World War II in the Pacific Theater seeing action in the New Guinea and Southern Philippine Campaigns. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Victory Medal. He was Honorably Discharged in 1946.
Mr. Lajoie was employed by the Raytheon Corp. in Bedford as a draftsman, retiring in 1990 following 34 years with the company.
He was a communicant of the former St. Louis de France Church and currently was a member of Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Parish in Dracut.
Along with his wife Claire, Mr. Lajoie used to enjoy morning breakfasts at the McDonald's Restaurant on Bridge Street in Dracut.
He leaves three children and their spouses, Paul J. and Cheryl Lajoie, Robert J. and Diane Lajoie and Denise T. and Scott Sabotka, all of Lowell; six grandchildren, Courtney Lajoie of Beaverton, OR, Kaitlin Lajoie, Adam Lajoie, Robert K. Lajoie, Scotty Sabotka, Jr. and Rachel Sabotka, all of Lowell.
