DRACUT - Joseph S. Kubit, Sr., 89, a resident of Dracut, passed away at his home on Friday, March 3, 2017 with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy E. (Small) Kubit with whom he shared 66 years of marriage.
Born in Lowell on March 8, 1927, he was the son of the late Stanislaus and Katarzina (Znoj) Kubit. Joe was a graduate of Lowell High School, Class of 1945. Following graduation, he enlisted with the United States Coast Guard serving during the final months of World War II.
Prior to his retirement, he served the City of Lowell on the Fire Department achieving the rank of Lieutenant. He was a member of the Lowell Retired Firefighters' Association.
An active member of St. Michael Parish, Joe was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, volunteered at the Parish Soup Kitchen and gave many hours to the former St. Michael's Bingo Program.
Joe's family would like to thank the nursing staff of Lahey Health at Home for the compassionate care provided to him.
In addition to his wife Dorothy, he leaves five children, James A. Kubit and his wife Linda of Pelham, NH, Michael V. Kubit and Brian Hazeltine of Boston, Joseph S. Kubit, Jr. and his wife Jeanne of Dracut, Kathy A. Doughty and her husband Michael of Lowell, and Brian J. Kubit and his wife Kim of Pelham, NH; twelve grandchildren, Keri, Kati, Kara, Meghan, Ryan, Emily, Molly, Hayley, Sean, Kaitlyn, Catherine and Lauren; one great grandson, Kaiden; a nephew and several nieces.. He was the father of the late Robert F. Kubit and the brother of the late Helen, Frank, Walter, Ann and John.
