Dracut – Joseph Z. Foisy, Jr., age 91, a resident of Dracut, died Thursday, April 14, 2011 at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford. He was the husband of the late Jeanne E. (Carrier) Foisy.
Born in Haverhill, on May 1, 1919, he was the son of the late Joseph Z. and Eva (Boulanger) Foisy. He was educated in area schools and prior to entering the Army he worked as a truck driver for the Greenway Heel Co. in Methuen.
Joseph was a disabled veteran having served during WWII in the 179th Infantry Regiment, as a heavy machine gunner. He attained the rank of Corporal and was a squad leader. Joseph was involved in the battle for Sicily and was captured in Naples, Italy. He was then transferred to Germany where he remained a POW for 1 year and 9 months until WWII ended.
Survivors include a son Michael D. Foisy and his wife, Sophie of Olympia, WA; a daughter Claudia A. Conway and her husband, James of Dracut; four grandchildren, Christopher Foisy and his wife Heather, Jennifer Lech and her husband Erik, Patrick Conway, and Ashley Conway; three great grandchildren, Sharon Rose Foisy, Nathan Foisy, and Hayden Lech as well as several nieces and nephews. He also leaves a dear friend Janet Sheeley of Dracut. Joseph was also the grandfather of the late Meghan Ann Conway
