LOWELL - Joseph Serge "Papa" Evangelista, age 65, a longtime resident of Lowell died unexpectedly Thursday, August 8, 2019 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Roberta "Bobbi-Jo" (Silvestri) Evangelista, to whom he was married for 39 years.
He was born in Cambridge on August 26, 1953, and was a son of the late Serge and Nina (Poli) Evangelista. He was a graduate of South Boston High School.
Prior to his retirement, Joe was employed for 20 years as a machine operator by Gillette in South Boston.
He loved rock & roll music, especially The Beatles and was a talented bass player and played in several bands throughout the years, including The Spores and Splash.
Joe could fix and build just about anything and spent most of his time working around the house and yard.
He found the most joy in life taking care of his adoring grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Joe is survived by a daughter, Teresa Evangelista of Lowell; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Tiffany Evangelista of Lowell; three grandchildren, Jacob Lawless, Joseph Evangelista, and Gianna Evangelista; two brothers, Lawrence Evangelista and his wife Anne of Malden and Serge Evangelista and his wife Kathy of Port Charlotte, FL; two sisters, Dolores Evangelista of Malden and Phyllis Dauwer and her husband Richard of Dracut; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
ARRANGEMENTS - Relatives and friends are invited to attend Joe's Life Celebration at the MCKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 AM at St. Francis Church in Dracut. Burial will be private.
