Joseph Z. (Juca) Costa, 85, a resident of Lowell, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2020. He was the husband of Maria L. Costa and they would have celebrated their 58th year of marriage later this month. Joseph was born in Terceira, Azores, Portugal on February 11, 1935 and was a son of the late Jose Vieira da Costa and Maria da Conceição Vieira.
Joseph moved to the United States in 1970 and worked for many years as a textile machine operator at Joan Fabrics. He enjoyed hunting for clams on the beach, soccer (Benfica), tending to his grapevines, working on the farm, and spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Besides his beloved wife, Maria, he is survived by sister, Albina Vieira da Costa his children, Maria Coelho and her husband, Jose, of Lowell, Ana Costa of Lowell, Cecilia Reis and her husband, Victor of Londonderry, and Lelia Crotty and her husband Kenneth, of Litchfield. In addition, he is survived by 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and cousins. He is welcomed heaven by his sister, Maria Alves, Gabriela Cordeiro, and Cecelia Dias. His Funeral Mass will be private. Relatives and Friends are invited to his Funeral Mass on Friday, July 24, at 1:00PM at St. Anthony Church, 893 Central Street in Lowell followed by committal prayers at 2:15 PM in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
