It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jose C. Velazquez on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at the age of 86. Jose was born on December 9, 1937 in Yauco, Puerto Rico, to Manuel Velazquez and Luz Maria Albino Caraballo. He was one of ten children and raised in Guayanilla, Puerto Rico.
Growing up Jose made a living as a carpenter and farmer. In 1964 he met the love of his life Margarita Velez Vargas with whom he shared 25 years with. Margarita had two young children, which he took in as his own and raised. They later had four children of their own. They separated in 1989 but always remained friends.
Jose enjoyed his life to the fullest. He loved music, dancing and taking his shots of Vodka. He loved his arroz con gandules, yuca and lechon asado. He loved to joke around and make everyone laugh. Most of all he loved his family, especially his daughter, Nidia (Shakira) who was the light of his life. Jose was a very strong man and fought hard to try and stay alive. He was a true warrior!
He is survived by his six children, Maria Perez, Emilio Justiniano, Nidia Velazquez, Jose Antonio Velazquez, Herbert Velazquez and Oscar Velazquez; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his two sisters, Maria (Nilsa) and Antonia; his brother, Manuel; as well as many other family and friends.
