REV. JOHN F. McHUGH, OMI
MISSIONARY OBLATE PRIEST FOR 38 YEARS
Rev. John "Jack" F. McHugh, OMI, 65, died at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Residence, Tewksbury, MA, on November 12, 2011, following a lengthy illness. He was born on August 19, 1946, in Boston, MA, the only child of the late John J. and Mary E. (Bazzinotti) McHugh.
Fr. McHugh entered the Oblate Novitiate at Tewksbury on September 7, 1966, and professed his first vows on September 8, 1967. He completed his studies at Our Lady of Hope Seminary in Newburgh, NY, and at the Oblate College in Washington, DC. His priestly ordination took place on May 31, 1973, in Lowell, MA.
Fr. McHugh's first Oblate obedience, in June of 1973, was Associate Pastor of St. William's Parish in Tewksbury. He continued in parish ministry until June of 2000, serving as Associate Pastor at St. Margaret Mary in Harrisburg, PA, then as Pastor at St. Anne's in Fayetteville, NC, St. Francis of Assisi in Riviera Beach, FL, and at Immaculate Conception in Lowell, MA, where he was also Superior of the Oblate community. From July of 2000 to September of 2006, he was Director and Superior at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Residence in Tewksbury. He served as chaplain to the Tewksbury Fire Department for seven years. He remained on staff at the residence until his death, assisting in whatever manner he could even as his health failed.
In addition to his Oblate family, Fr. McHugh is survived by his uncles and aunts, Anthony and Jacqueline Bazzinotti, John and Ella Bazzinotti, Louis and Lillian Bazzinotti, Joan and Robert Corcoran, William Bazzinotti and Claire Searson, Anna and Michael Massa, Margaret and James Green, Ernest and Mary Bazzinotti, and Rita and Frank O'Dell, by many loving cousins, and by many close friends.
