John J. Lynch, age 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 14, 2025, at his home in Lowell, surrounded by the family, who loved him so deeply. He was the devoted husband of the late Mary C. (Mitsakos) Lynch, with whom he shared 57 wonderful years of marriage, until her passing in 2010.
Born in Lowell on April 28, 1932, John was the son of the late Paul and Nora (Maloney) Lynch. He grew up in Dracut and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, a commitment he carried with quiet pride throughout his life.
John was also a longtime member of the Lowell Elks, a place that brought him lasting friendships, laughter and a sense of community. Whether enjoying an event or sharing stories with fellow members, the Elks became like a second family to him. His involvement with them reflected the same values he carried everywhere, loyalty, generosity and camaraderie.
A lifelong Lowell resident, John spent many years working as the Manager of the Fort Devens Meat Department before his retirement. But those who knew him best will remember him far more for who he was than for what he did. John had quite the personality, quick with a one-liner, always ready with a joke and able to make anyone feel welcome. He loved watching the Red Sox, boxing, playing cards with friends and family, tinkering with antique cars and trucks and could always be found outside, working on some project in the yard.
Above all else, John’s greatest joy was his family. He was a loving father to his children, Mark Lynch of Lowell and Maureen Ducharme and her husband, Paul of Chino Valley, AZ; a proud grandfather to his three grandchildren, Mark Lynch of Folsom, LA, Erin (Lynch) O’Keefe of Dracut and Paul Ducharme of Prescott, AZ; as well as two great-grandchildren, John “Jack” Lynch and Xena O’Keefe, who brought a special kind of joy to his family and carried forward his legacy.
John was predeceased by his eldest son, John Jr. in 1981 and his siblings, Paul, Maureen and Ann.
John will be remembered for his quick wit, his hardworking spirit and the love he had for his family. His stories, humor and gentle presence will be deeply missed but forever cherished by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to John’s Life Celebration at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 from 4 until 7 PM.
