LOWELL – John V. "Jack" Keefe, 83, a resident of the Christian Hill neighborhood in the Centralville section of Lowell for many years, died Friday, October 28, 2011 at Saints Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary M. (Erwin) Keefe with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.
Born in Lowell on May 25, 1928, he was a son of the late John J. and Rose (Ficca) Keefe.
Jack's early childhood was spent in the Acre section of Lowell where he was a member of St. Patrick Church.
After graduation from Lowell High School, he served with the United States Army during the Korean War.
Following marriage, Jack and his wife Mary settled in the Centralville section of Lowell. They were involved in St. Michael Parish, Jack being the director of the annual St. Michael CYO show. He also directed the very popular St. Patrick Church Variety Show, which was held the week of St. Patrick Day. A talented tenor himself, Jack sang for many years at the Holy Rosary Church in Lawrence, the Holy Trinity Church in Lowell, and most recently, was a member of the St. Francis Choir in Dracut. He was most recently a communicant of St. Francis Church.
He worked for many years and retired from the Courier Citizen Corp. of Lowell.
He leaves his two sons, John V. Keefe, Jr. and his wife Mary Gail (Farrell) and David M. Keefe, all of Lowell; a granddaughter, Jessica M. Keefe of Lowell; a sister, Rosemary McMahon of Lowell; four brothers, William Keefe and his wife Elaine of Dracut, Robert Keefe and his wife Winifred of York, ME, Raymond Keefe and his wife Maureen of Lowell and Francis Keefe of Tyngsboro; a sister-in-law, Cynthia Keefe of Lowell; also many nieces and nephews. He was a brother of the late Thomas and Joseph Keefe.
