Salem, NH - John J. "Whitey" White, beloved husband of the late Carol A. (Eaves) White passed away at his Salem residence on Thursday, April 18, 2024 following a period of declining health. He was 92.
Born in Philadelphia on January 2, 1932, he was a son of the late Francis and Doretta (Decker) White. Whitey grew up in Philadelphia, where he and Carol lived for several years prior to settling in Pelham, NH to raise their children.
During his working career Whitey enjoyed several different paths and retiring from the Raytheon Company. When he retired he settled in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Whitey loved his time at Old Orchard Beach, especially walking the beach with his beloved Greyhound rescues.
He enjoyed running and biking and looked forward to backpacking and camping with his children in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
Survivors include his daughter Linda Chakar of Pelham, NH; Son Scott White and his partner Gerardo Diazdelavega of Hudson, FL; his son in law Sam Chakar of Windham, NH; grandchildren Nicole White, Melissa Mason, Jonathan Chakar, Marissa Reid and her husband AJ; great grandchildren Julian and Vayda Reid; and several nieces and nephews.
Whitey was predeceased by his son Michael, granddaughter Stephanie Chakar, and his siblings Francis White, Elizabeth "Betty" Shafstall, and Catherine "Cass" Kudler.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Whitey's Life Celebration at the McKenna-Ouellette Funeral Home, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell on Thursday, April 25, at 10:00 AM. His funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 11:00 AM. Burial in Gibson Cemetery, Pelham. Donations in Whitey's memory may be made to National Greyhound Foundation - Saving Greyhounds, P.O.
