LOWELL - John Yves "Frenchie" Gamache, 73, a longtime resident of Lowell, died unexpected Friday November 3, 2017 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Lucille M. (Belanger) Gamache, to whom he was married for 53 years.
He was born in Magog, Quebec, Canada on July 5, 1944 and was a son of the late Jean Claude and Lucia (Devost) Gamache. He received his education in Canada.
Prior to his retirement, John worked for over 50 years as a construction laborer with Local 429.
In his free time he loved going to thoroughbred races with his friends, and playing cards, especially lively rounds of scat with family and friends. He also adored spending time at his family camp in Magog, Canada, which was a place he found peace and relaxation. His greatest joy however, came from spending time in the company of his loving family.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his two daughters, Susan Salemi and her husband Jim of Derry, NH and Lynne Gamache of Lowell; his son, Richard Gamache and his wife Lauren of Hubbardston, MA; his granddaughter, Amanda Coughlin; his great grandson, Brian Barkley; three brothers, Geno Gamache and his wife Elaine of Chelmsford, Paul Gamache and his longtime companion Lucille Daigle, and Michael Gamache and his wife Nanette of Saugus; his two sisters, Marcelle Sterritt and her husband Robert of Newton, NH and Johannne Conlon and her longtime companion Dick Turnbull of Merrimack, MA; and many nieces, nephews, and good friends.
He was also the brother of the late Roger Gamache and the step-son of the late Mary Ann Gamache.
