John P. "Jack" Flynn, Jr., beloved husband of Elizabeth A. "Liz" (Redington) Flynn, a resident of Lowell and Pocasset, died Wednesday August 21, 2013 at the Lahey Medical Center in Burlington following an extended illness. He was 81.
Jack was born in Lowell on February 25, 1932 a son of John P. and Catherine (McSorley) Flynn.
He graduated from Keith Academy in 1950 and Boston College in 1954. Jack then made his way to New York City where he worked in the airline industry. He worked for American Airlines and TWA for 15 years working from a ticket agent to an analyst.
While at TWA he met Liz, his wife of 46 years. Shortly after their marriage they returned to Lowell. Jack joined his brothers Thomas and Peter at Flynn Travel in Lowell. Jack and Liz then opened Flynn Travel and Tours in Billerica which he owned and operated with his wife for 36 years.
Jack was a communicant of St. Michael Parish and ran CYO trips there for many years during the 1970's and 80's.
He was a member of the Billerica Rotary Club and the Greater Lowell Chamber of Commerce.
He was a proud alumnus of Boston College and an avid football and basketball fan, holding season tickets for many years. He enjoyed tailgating with his family and attending the Cotton and Liberty Bowls with his sons.
Jack enjoyed extensive travel, but especially trips to the beach and New York City, where he would take in a Broadway show. Most of all he cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Family members recall Jack as a motivated person who was caring, and proud. He was always friendly and humorous.
Surviving him besides his wife are two sons and daughters in law, JP and Beth Flynn of Melrose, Chris and Maura Flynn of Natick; eight grandchildren, Kara, Thomas, Joseph, Eileen, Mary Cate, Liam, Teddy, and Chase; two brothers and sisters in law; Len and Ann Flynn of Lowell, Peter and Kathi Flynn of Henniker, NH; a sister and brother in law Joanna and Jack Doykos of Rye, NH; several cousins including Ann Anstiss, John Quinn, Patricia O'Brien; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Thomas and Stephen Flynn.
