John A. "Jack" Flynn, beloved husband of the late Dorothy A. (Campbell) Flynn, a resident of Dracut, and formerly of West Yarmouth and Palm Beach Gardens, FL, died unexpectedly on Thursday January 29, 2015 at his residence. He was 86.
Jack was born in Lowell on March 30, 1928, a son of the late Michael A. and Helen F. (Quinn) Flynn.
He was educated in the Lowell schools and then served in the US Army during the Korean War, attaining the rank of CPL.
Upon returning to Lowell, Jack became a firefighter for the city of Lowell, retiring in 1987. John was a firefighter when fire trucks were made of wood and firefighters were made of iron. He was the Cowboy of Ladder 2, Branch Street Fire Station. Jack was firefighter of the year in 1981.
Jack loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed a good game of Keno and watching the New England Patriots.
Jack was a communicant of St. Michael Church for many years.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Michael T. and Charlene Flynn of Tyngsboro, Donna L. and Paul Forte of Dracut; three grandchildren, Kristina Helen Elizabeth Flynn, Erin Elizabeth Forte, Michael John Thomas Flynn; sister in law and brother in law, Colin B. and Jane (Balkus) Campbell of CA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was the brother of the late Eleanor M., Patrick K., Joseph C., and George M. "Buzz" Flynn.
