Lowell

Joan A. (Soucy) Armstrong, a resident of the Belvidere section of Lowell and the beloved wife of Michael R. Armstrong for 52 years, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Lowell General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was 73.

A lifelong resident of Lowell, Joan was born on October 26, 1952, the daughter of the late Andre and Rita (Furtado) Soucy. She was the daughter-in-law of the late Robert and Eileen (Hogan) Armstrong.

Growing up with her maternal grandmother, Hextorine “Nana” Furtado, Joan formed a special and lasting bond.

Joan dedicated more than 40 years to her career at the former St. John’s Hospital, continuing her service through its transitions and mergers until retiring from Lowell General Hospital. She began her career as an administrative supervisor in the Radiology Department and later retired from the Fiscal Services Department.

Joan had a love for crafts, especially creating beautiful wreaths for family and friends. She also enjoyed cooking and was happiest when feeding anyone who stopped by. One of her favorite places to visit was The Cliff House in Ogunquit, Maine. Above all, family meant everything to Joan, and she especially cherished the time she spent with her four granddaughters.

Joan's family would like to thank the staff at Lowell General Hospital for the exceptional care given to her. Special thank you to Meghan Culhane, whose unwavering support, commitment and friendship to Joan has made her a part of the family.

In addition to her husband, Mike, Joan is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Allyson Armstrong; her daughter, Jennifer Armstrong; and her four granddaughters, Kaylie, Cara, Cassie, and Riley. She also leaves three sisters and a brother-in-law, Patricia Hebert, Judith Hartman, and Cheryl and Leo Sheridan; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Brian and Carol Soucy and Joseph and Maureen Soucy; and her brother-in-law Leo Garneau. She also leaves many loving nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Carol Nangle, sister-in-law of the late Robert Nangle and Thomas Hebert, Sandra Garneau, Robert and Maureen Armstrong, Eileen and John Dion, and Paul and Colleen Armstrong. She was aunt to the late Little Brian Soucy.

Joan’s funeral services were private. A Life Celebration will be planned and announced at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to The Cancer Center at Lowell General Hospital, 295 Varnum Ave, Lowell, MA 01854
