Jeanne M. Humphreys

March 8, 1917 — March 23, 2009

Lowell - Jeanne M. (Maille) Humphreys, beloved wife of the late Frederick H. Humphreys, a resident of Lowell, formerly Dracut, died Monday March 23, 2009, at a local nursing home. She was 92.
She was born in Lowell on March 8, 1917, a daughter of the late Ernest and Lelia (Fortier) Maille.
Jeanne's early career was that of seamstress. People from as far away as Boston would have Jeanne create their special outfits. It would not be unusual to find her searching the garment district of Boston to find the perfect material for her customers.
After giving up her life as a professional seamstress, she went to work for Raytheon in Andover, Ma for 20 years. She always spoke with pride and a sense of patriotism when telling her family and friends that she worked on the Trident missile.
It was never difficult to get Jeanne involved in a conversation if it were about animals, especially special dogs. With the exception of her later years, there was never a time when a dog- a big dog didn't take center stage in Jeanne and her husband Freddy's home.
She also enjoyed her membership in the Dracut Senior Citizen Club and the Centralville Senior Citizen Club.
Throughout her life Jeanne loved adventure. Her travels took her on Mediterranean cruises, to Florida, Montana, Hawaii, Alaska and places in between. Her last big trip, the one she remembered throughout the rest of her life was to Rome where she saw the Pope-truly a highlight of her life.
The family would like to acknowledge the kind and caring staff from D'Youville Senior Center for the wonderful care given "Aunt Jeanne". A special thanks to those special angels on A-Wing.
Survivors include loving and devoted niece, Lelia (Maille) Druzdis of Manchester, CT; Her lifelong friend and cousin, Rene Cote of Lowell, and his children and families, Rene and Sara Cote and daughter Davis Ann of Dunwoody, GA; Pauline Mullin-Peters, her husband Lew and children Brenna Mullin and Jeanne's God son Jonathan, all of Lowell; and her Godson Steven Cote of Lowell; a cousin Marcel Cote of St. Petersburg, FL. Known as "Aunt Jeanne" to all, these people have brought endless hours of joy into her life. She was also the sister of the late Juliette Gleason, Norman Maille, Elmer "Bill" Maille, and aunt and Godmother of Geraldine Maille Hacker.
