James J. Williams

October 28, 1937 — June 21, 2009

James J. Williams, age 71, devoted husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family and friends following a courageous battle with mesothelioma.

He was the beloved husband of Carole (Kondra) Williams, with whom he was married for 20 wonderful years.

Born in Lowell on October 28, 1937, he was the son of the late James J. Williams, Sr. and Helen T. (McGrade) Williams.

Mr. Williams was educated in the Lowell Public School system. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for eight years and was a retired twenty year veteran of the Lowell Police Department. Following his retirement from the police force, Jim served as head of security at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium for several years, as well as a real estate agent with Century 21, GJ Brown.

He was an active lifetime member of the East End Club, where he served on many boards and was elected Man of the Year for his commitment to charitable works. Jim took great pleasure in wintering in New Smyrna Beach, FL, was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan and enjoyed spending time with his dogs, Chelsea and Coby.

Jim is survived by a son and two daughters, Richard J. and Renee Williams, Marlene and Ken Bonin, of Dracut, MA and Sandra and Paul LoPilato, of Tyngsborough, as well as three step children, Edward J. Champagne, III, of Malden, John S. Champagne, of Lowell, and Suellen Champagne of Dracut. Mr. Williams also leaves sixteen grandchildren, James, Julie, and Jenna Williams; Cara and Kenny Bonin; Jeffrey, Nicholas, Kaicee, and William LoPilato; Michael, Victoria, Elizabeth, Julia, and Johnny Champagne; Breanna and Meghan Bradley.

He is also survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Mary Kondra of Deltona, FL, three sisters-in-law and their husbands, Janice and Robert Bagshaw of East Kingtson, NH, Marilyn and George Skianes, of Merrimack, NH, and Mary Jane and Frank Kukulski of Dracut, several nieces and nephews, including a godchild, Kendra, and many friends especially Moe and Peggy Perrin, and Ray Field.

He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Kailyn Marissa LoPilato.
