James W. Stimpson, Sr. … Vietnam Army Veteran; 69

Litchfield, NH - James "Jimmy" W. Stimpson Sr., age 69, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025, in Manchester, New Hampshire after a short illness. Born on June 17, 1955, in Charlestown Massachusetts, to Ralph F. and Marie (Celis) Stimpson, Jimmy lived a life marked by dedication to his work, love for his family, and a joyful spirit that touched everyone he met.

Jimmy was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Joan “Joanie” (Metcalf) Stimpson. He was also predeceased by his sister Linda (Stimpson) Scipione, and brother Kenny Stimpson.

Jimmy proudly served his country as a combat engineer in the United States Army. His service reflected the same strength and commitment that would define the rest of his life. After completing his military duty, he embarked on a long and devoted career with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, where he worked for an impressive 45 years. His steadfast work ethic and reliability earned him the respect of colleagues and community members alike.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jimmy was known for his generous heart and infectious sense of humor. He had a gift for storytelling—his tales often filled rooms with laughter and left lasting impressions on those lucky enough to hear them. Whether sharing memories from his youth or recounting humorous moments from everyday life, Jimmy brought joy wherever he went.

He found great happiness in simple pleasures: admiring big trucks, relaxing during beach vacations, and most especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Jimmy is lovingly remembered by his daughter Christine Gikonyo; son James Stimpson Jr. and daughter in law, Amie Lightfoot; son Ryan Stimpson; cherished grandchildren, Haley Drew, Savannah Drew, James W. Stimpson III, Shae’lyn Stimpson, Liam Lightfoot, and Rowan Stimpson. As well as his great granddaughter, Zaylee Drew.

He has also left behind his brothers Ralph Stimpson Jr., and Michael Stimpson; as well as his sisters Pauline Guerino, Debrah Black, Arlene Fitch and her husband Danny, and Marie Schofield and her husband Dale as well as many nieces and nephews. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
