Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Friend
James T. Callery, 86, passed away peacefully at home on July 15, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Agnes (Flynn) Callery, with whom he would have celebrated 63 years of marriage on August 31.
Born in Lowell on July 5, 1940, Jimmy was the son of the late James Joseph Callery, who was killed during World War II, and the late Dorothy (Gentile) (Callery) Byrne and Edward S. Byrne. He attended Lowell schools and graduated from Lowell High School in 1957. After graduation, he proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, an honor he carried with him throughout his life.
Jimmy spent many years as the owner and operator of JJJET Reproduction in Reading. After retiring, he enjoyed working as a receiver at Market Basket.
Nothing made Jimmy happier than being surrounded by family and friends. Whether it was a holiday, a celebration, or an ordinary day, he loved a gathering. Family always came first, and he would do anything for the people he loved. Known for his quick wit, warm smile, and generous heart, Jimmy had a special gift for making people laugh and making everyone feel welcome.
A longtime member of the East End Club, Jimmy enjoyed playing cribbage, trying his luck with Keno and scratch tickets, and, most of all, spending time with friends.
In addition to his wife, Agnes, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Debbie Callery and Dave Errico, Michael Callery and Debbie Marchand, Laurie and Jay McAnespie, and Patrick and Terri Callery; his cherished grandchildren, Adam Errico, Jack McAnespie, Erin McAnespie, James Callery, and Ella McAnespie; his brother, Michael Byrne and his wife, Ruth; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
He was predeceased by his brother, Edward R. Callery and his wife, Nancy; his sister-in-law, Nancy Paquin and her husband, Charlie; and his beloved grandson, Matthew Callery.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Tufts Medicine Care at Home, especially Danielle, and to Irma, for the exceptional care, kindness, and dignity they provided during Jimmy's final days.
Jimmy's greatest legacy is the love he shared with his family, the friendships he cherished, and the memories he leaves in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Relatives and friends are invited to Jimmy’s Life Celebration on Tuesday, from 4 until 7 PM, at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street.
