James R. Sheehan, 87, a life-long resident of Dracut, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 20, 2017 at a local healthcare facility. He was the beloved husband of the late Janet A. (Perry) to whom he was married for 49 years. Born in Dracut on June 28,1930 he was the youngest child of the late Leo and Mary (Kirk) Sheehan. Mr. Sheehan was predeceased by his seven siblings, John, Leo, Marie, Edward, Arthur, Joseph, and Elizabeth.
Jim was a graduate of the Lowell Trade School. Before working as a manufacturing engineer at Avco/Textron Systems of Wilmington, he served with the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1954. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service.
In his younger years, Jim enjoyed deep sea fishing, camping with dear friends in Maine, and vacationing at Hampton Beach with his family. Over the course of his life Jim found himself surrounded by many good friends and neighbors.
Jim most enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He leaves three sons, James M. of Meredith, NH, Timothy J. and his wife Linda M. (McDowell) of Dunstable, and Michael J. and his wife Sharon L. (Urbanek) of Pepperell; seven grandchildren, Megan, Ryan, Lauren, Dylan, Julia, Collin, and Alexandra; three sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Lillian Spring of Leominster, Joan and Bill Gunnis of Templeton MA. , and Carol Haley of Nashua, NH; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
James was the father of the late David R. Sheehan who passed December 19, 2000.
