James F. "Jim" O'Neil a resident of the Highlands section of Lowell passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at the Lowell General Hospital following a period of declining health. He was 84.
Born in Lowell on July 23, 1936, he was a son of the late Charles and Mildred (Stirk) O'Neil. Jim grew up in Chelmsford and graduated from Chelmsford High School. He entered the US Army in 1959 and served until 1961, when he was transferred to the US Army Reserves.
Jim retired after working 25 years in the maintenance department at the Edith Nourse Rogers Veterans Administration Hospital in Bedford.
He was an avid sports fan, watching the Red Sox, Bruins and Patriots whenever he could. Jim enjoyed his visits to Cape Cod, a coffee from Dunkin Donuts, but his favorite pastime was sitting on the front porch with his Phillies Blunt keeping watch on the neighborhood.
Survivors include his four children and spouses, Richard O'Neil of Dracut, Elizabeth and Richard Terramagra of Nashua, NH, Kevin and Bernadette O'Neil of Lowell, Christopher O'Neil of Nashua, NH; a grandson Finnegan O'Neil; and a brother and sister, Charles O'Neil, Ruth O'Neil both of Chelmsford. He was the father of the late James F. O'Neil, Jr.
It being his request, funeral services will be private.
