PELHAM, NH – James L. McManus, 67, a resident of Pelham, NH, died Tuesday evening, September 16, 2014 at the V.A. Medical Center, West Roxbury. He was the beloved husband of Gloria A. (Koczera) McManus, with whom he was married for 47 years.
Born in Lowell on October 30, 1946, he was a son of the late Leo C. and Audrey E. (Holmes) McManus.
Jim was a graduate of Lowell High School. He served with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War from 1966 until his Honorable Discharge in 1969.
He was a self-employed home builder for many years and was a past president of the Greater Lowell Home Builders Association.
Jim received an Honorary Citation for saving a young boys life following a plane crash at Lake Winnipesaukee.
In addition to his wife Gloria, he leaves four children, Kelly McManus and her wife Laurie of Pelham, NH, Kimberly LaBranche and her husband Thomas of Windham, NH, Kristin Daly and her husband William of Dracut and Kyle McManus and his wife Lanna of Hudson, NH; three sisters, Fran Visbeck and her husband David of Moultonborough, NH, Joanne Laurent and her husband Emile of Dracut and Cathy Ribeck and her fiance' William Dubois of Lowell; five grandchildren, Emma and Elisabeth Daly of Dracut, Jordan, Jalynn and Jenna McManus of Hudson, NH; his father and mother-in-law, William and Pauline Koczera of Dracut; also several nieces and nephews. He was a brother of the late Michael McManus.
