James T. Haggerty

Lowell

James T. Haggerty, age 73, a longtime resident of Lowell died unexpectedly Friday, November 3, 2023.  He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Louise “Mary Lou” (Gregoire) Haggerty, to whom he was married for 49 years prior to her death in 2019.  

He was born in Lowell on August 7, 1950, and was a son of the late Francis Haggerty Sr. and Helen (Grogan) Haggerty.  He received his education in Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School, class of 1969.  

Following high school, James began his career as a telephone linesman for Bell Atlantic and continued with them when they became Nynex, New England Telephone and finally Verizon where he retired from in 2001 at the age of 51.  

He was a longtime member of the Lowell Lodge of Elks.  

James was an avid fan of the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins and enjoyed playing cards and pool and going to the casino.  He also enjoyed spending time in the sun, especially at the beach and pool.  His greatest joy however was spending time in the company of his loving family, especially his adoring grandchildren and great grandchild.  

He is survived by two daughters, Tracy Pluchak and her significant other Shane Strykowski of Hampton, NH and Kimberly Haggerty-Monahan and her husband William of Dracut; six grandchildren, Jake Pluchak of Lowell and his significant other Eve Santiago of Lowell, who also helped to care for James the last few years, Cody Pluchak and his fiancée Sarina Mann of Lowell, Blake Strykowski of Hampton, NH, Ashley Monahan of Dracut, Bryan Nelson, Jr. of Jaffrey, NH, and Jaxon Flaherty of Manchester, NH; and his great grandson, Maverick Pluchak of Lowell.   He was also the father of the late Michael Haggerty and Kelly Lynn Haggerty and the brother of the late Francis Haggerty, Jr..  

It being his wish, there will be no visitation and services were private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in James’ memory to Fresenius Kidney Care Lowell, 847 Rogers St., Ste 101, Lowell, MA 01852.
