Salem, NH - James J. Gendreau, a former longtime Dracut resident, passed away on Sunday June 10, 2012 at Greystone Farm Assisted Living Community in Salem, NH, where he was residing due to recent declining health. He was 89.
Jim was the husband of the late Therese L. (Lauziere) Gendreau.
He was born in Lowell on October 19, 1922, the son of the late Wilfred and Laura (Morrison) Gendreau. He attended Dracut schools and was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Army.
Jim retired from Hanscom Air Force Base in 1980 where he had worked as a model maker/machinist for many years. He was a communicant of St. Francis Parish in Dracut, a past member of the Dracut Knights of Columbus, and the Dracut American Legion. Jim spent most of his spare time with family and friends at Newfound Lake in Bristol, NH where he enjoyed boating, fishing and snowmobiling.
Surviving him is a daughter Jacqueline Murphy and longtime partner Ralph Edwards of Pelham, NH, a son James R. "Buddy" Gendreau and his wife Alyson Gendreau of Pelham, NH, four grandchildren Sean Murphy and his wife Amy of Newton, Kayla Gendreau of Swanzey, NH, Patrick and Casey Gendreau of Pelham, NH, two great grandchildren Avery and Lilianna Murphy, a brother Raymond Gendreau of Arizona, a brother in law, Joseph Lauziere of South Carolina, several close friends and many nieces and nephews. Jim was also the father of the late Robert J. Gendreau, grandfather of the late William M. Murphy, and brother to the late Harvey Gendreau, Willis Gendreau, and Phyllis Burt.
