Hui Zhang, beloved wife of Jianren Weng, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2026, following an extended illness. She was 91 years old.
Born in Tianjin, China, on November 4, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Hongzhi Zhang and Guizhen Yang.
Hui was educated in China and dedicated her career to medicine, serving as an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialist. She and Jianren first visited the United States in 1993 and later made Boston their home in 1999. Hui was baptized at Christian Gospel Church in Worcester on August 15, 1999. She became a U.S. citizen on July 18, 2018, taking the Oath of Allegiance at the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston.
During her retirement, Hui attended a senior college in China, where she developed a love for crafts and traditional Chinese painting, pursuits that brought her great joy.
In addition to her beloved husband of 67 years, Jianren, Hui is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Nehemiah Chenping Cherng of Methuen; her grandsons, Jason Cherng of Methuen and Justin Weng of Raleigh, North Carolina; and her daughter-in-law, Hong Xu of Raleigh, North Carolina. She was predeceased by her son, Xiaoyu Weng, and her grandson, Charley Cherng.
Relatives and friends are invited to Hui's Life Celebration on Thursday July 9 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the McKenna-Ouellette Funeral Home, 327 Hildreth Street, Lowell. Her funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Wildwood Cemetery in Wilmington.
