Hubert E. Chaput, beloved husband of Pauline L. (Jean) Chaput, died at his Lowell residence on Sunday May 11, 2014 surrounded by his beloved wife and family following an extended illness. He was 77.
Bert was born in Nashua, NH on November 1, 1936, a son of the late Hubert and Lillian (Jean) Brodeur who died when Bert was a young child. Bert was then adopted by his God parents the late Uriel and Marie-Anna (Jean) Chaput. He was a 1955 graduate of Nashua High School where he was on the track team. Following his graduation he joined the US Marine Corps, where he served during the Lebanon Conflict. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal after 6 years of service.
Prior to his retirement Bert was a compounder at the Nashua Corporation for 30 years. He held membership in the Paper Workers International Union Local 270 in Nashua, NH.
Bert was a communicant of the former St. Louis de France Church where he was a member of the St. Louis Prayer group for 20 years. He was currently a communicant of Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Parish, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister.
Bert took pleasure in gardening. He loved tending to his flowers and his tomato plants. Bert treasured his time camping and spending time at Old Orchard Beach, ME. He enjoyed travelling to Aruba with Pauline which they both considered their special place.
Surviving him besides Pauline, his wife of 53 years are two sons and daughters in law, Michel U. and Francine Chaput of Dracut, Daniel A. and Shanon Chaput of Mason, OH; a daughter Joyce J. Chaput of Lowell; three grandchildren, Eric Gauthier, Ethan Chaput, Tristan Chaput; two great grandchildren, Corey and Alexander Gauthier; a sister and brother in law, Claire (Soucy) and Normand Raymond of Nashua, NH; two brothers and sisters in law, Roger and Bernadette Brodeur of Nashua, NH, Roger and Martha Chaput of Lake Havasu, AZ; and a large extended family. He was also the brother of the late Armand Brodeur and Claude Brodeur.
