Dracut – Howard R. "Howie" Chaput, devoted husband of Priscilla (Pare) Chaput, died peacefully on Friday September 2nd at his Dracut residence surrounded by his family. He was 75.
Born in Lowell on August 2, 1936, he was a son of the late Jeremie and Laura (Columbe) Chaput.
Howie was a devoted auto mechanic who worked with his brothers and nephew at Chappy's Auto Repair on Aiken Avenue in Lowell for 55 years.
He enjoyed NASCAR racing and spending time with his family.
Surviving him besides his wife are five children, Diana Nault and her husband John, Howard Chaput, Jr. and his wife Celeste. Kenneth Chaput, Joseph Nutter and his girlfriend Tracy Finney, Michelle Normandie and her husband John; eight grandchildren; a brother Rudolph "Rudy" Chaput; several brothers in law and sisters in law; many nieces and nephews including his very special nephews and nieces, Jean and Christy Chaput, Janet Dupuis, Jim Dunn, Lisa and Kevin Hanson; dear friends Roger and Janet Vezina.
Howie was the brother of the late Ralph Chaput, Walter "Chappy" Chaput and Pauline Leigh and stepfather of the late Janet Dean and Shawn Nutter.
