DRACUT - Henri J. Ostiguy, 89, a Dracut resident, died Friday, November 6, 2009 at a local nursing home. He was the husband of the late Mary V. (Roper) Ostiguy.
Born in Lowell on September 18, 1920, he was a son of the late Alphee and Marie Jeanne (Trudel) Ostiguy.
Mr. Ostiguy was a graduate of the former St. Joseph High School of Lowell, class of 1938.
He served with the United States Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart for wounds received in Rhineland, Central Europe. While under heavy shelling, Henri volunteered to accompany his platoon leader to locate missing men from his platoon and was wounded during this mission. He received a Certificate of Merit for his heroism. He was a lifemember of the VFW, Post 662 and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Ostiguy was the owner of Ostiguy's Market and also worked for DeMoulas Supermarkets retiring in 1982.
He was a communicant of St. Francis Church, Dracut.
He leaves a daughter, Jeanne M. LeBlanc and her husband John of Dracut; two sons, John H. Ostiguy and his wife Tina of Peekskill, NY and Robert J. Ostiguy and his wife Katherine of Watertown; eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, two nieces. He also leaves his fianc�, Maria Silva of Dracut. He was a brother of the late Emile Ostiguy, Arthur Ostiguy and Rose Albert.
