LOWELL - Helen A. (Johnston) Harrington, age 89, a long-time resident of Christian Hill, died Monday, May 31, at home after a short illness.
She was the beloved wife of 62 years of the late William E. Harrington, whom she married on Easter Sunday, 1946.
Born in Boston on October 15, 1920, she was the daughter of late John H. and Helen Johnston. She attended Lowell High School and Lowell State Teachers College.
Early in her teaching career, she taught at the Cameron School in Forge Village. Later, after raising her family and returning to school at Boston University, she served as a special education teacher in the Dracut Public Schools for nearly 18 years.
She is survived by three children and their spouses: James Michael Harrington and his wife, Joyce, of Lowell; William Brian Harrington and his wife, Judith, of Hampton, N.H.; and Donna Harrington-Lueker and her husband, William, of Bristol, R.I.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Her brother, Frank Johnston of Beaumont, Texas, also survives her.
