Hartson Thomas "Tom" Hammond, beloved husband of Joan (Peters) Hammond, a Dracut resident, died on Friday January 10, 2014, with his family by his side. He was 76.
He was born in Rumford, Maine on April 9, 1937, a son of the late Hartson W. and Lenora (Gauthier) Hammond. Tom was a 1957 graduate of Mexico High School, Mexico, Maine. He then served in the Army National Guard.
Tom retired from the Pepperell Paper Company, which was also known previously as St. Regis Company and James River Company following 38 years of service. Following his retirement he worked at the Pelham High School and the Dracut Senior Center.
Tom was a communicant and active member of Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Parish. He was a member of the Men's Club, Marriage Encounter and the Bereavement Committee. He also volunteered at the former Ste. Therese School.
Tom bowled for many years with the Shawsheen Bowling League and later with the Dracut Seniors. He also was an avid dart player and played for many years in the Greater Lowell Dart League.
Tom and Joan loved dancing and traveling, but family was paramount to Tom. He looked forward to spending time with all of his family, especially at the Hammond Reunion.
Surviving Tom besides his wife of 53 years are five children and their families; Mark and Deborah (Falardeau) Hammond of Dracut, their children, Jen Ruckman and her fiancé Fred St. Onge, Stephanie R, and Brandon Hammond and great grandchildren Jayden, Landon, and Jullian; his son Brian and Nancy (Couillard) Hammond of Hudson, NH and their children Kyle, Jason and his wife Kristen (Vergados) and their sons Michael, and Matthew; a son Glen and Paula (Farmer) of Lowell and their son Tyler; a son Neal and Donna (Perreault) of Nashua, NH and their children Keith, Craig, Kirsten and Caitlin; a daughter Jill and Michael Morlock of Dracut and their sons Christopher and Brandon; a brother Walter and his wife Sandra; a sister in law and brother in law Susan (Peters) and Larry Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
