OBITUARY- GRATIO D. MARTEL
Dracut- Gratio D. Martel, 88, husband of the late Annette (Roy) Martel, a resident of this town for many years, died Thursday, May 20, at the Lowell General Hospital.
Born in Gaspe, P.Q. Canada on January 22, 1916, he was a son of the late Alphonse and Florida (Boutin) Martel. He received his education in that city.
Until his recent illness, he was a communicant of Ste. Therese Church where he was very active in the Men's Club assisting with the parish bingo and with the collection of Mass offerings.
Prior to his retirement from Raytheon Co, he was an active member of the International Electrical Workers, Local 1505 and served as steward for many years. He was a member of the Dracut Senior Citizens' Club.
Surviving him is a sister-in-law, Theresa Gagne of Dracut; four brothers-in-law, Arthur Roy and his wife Rita of Jacksonville, FL, Roger Roy of Dracut, Leo Langlois and his wife Virginia (Roy) Langlois of Tyngsboro and Ernest Forest of Tewksbury. The youngest of seven children, he was the brother of the late Conrad and Edmour Martel of Tewksbury, Franconio who died at an early age, and Gaetan "Jessie" Mellinger of Ontario, CA, Lorenzo and Antonio Martel both of Lowell; also brother-in-law of the late George Roy, Sr., Olivine Boutin, Dorothy Turcotte, Violet Hamelin, Lucille Forest, Loretta Langlois and George Gagne of Dracut; also several nieces and nephews of both the Martel and Roy families.
