Glenn E. Olsen, 61, a long time resident of the Christian Hill section of Lowell, died Wednesday, September 7, at Lowell General Hospital, after a long struggle with COPD.
He was born in Lowell on November 8, 1960, son of the late Theresa A. (Scanlon) Olsen. Glenn graduated from St. Michael Grammar School (’74) and Central Catholic High School (‘78). Early in his career, he worked as a technician at New England Nuclear. Later, prior to his early health-related retirement, Glenn worked as a mortgage agent in the northeastern Massachusetts/southern NH area.
Glenn enjoyed playing softball and golf and was a longtime member of the Centralville Links Golf Association, playing out of Campbell’s Scottish Highlands, Salem, NH. Here he enjoyed many laughs and a few beers with old time neighborhood friends and new associates. He also liked to go deep sea fishing and started his own charters out of the Eastman docks in Seabrook, NH.
A communicant of St. Mary Magdalen Church, Glenn was grateful for his firm faith, which carried him through difficult times in the late stage of his life. Glenn had a dedication to Mother Mary and the Rosary which became stronger following his trip in August of 1995 to Medjugorje with his mother. Those who know the “O-Dog” appreciate his fierce independence, unique sense of humor and loyal friendship.
Survivors include three cousins Lynn (Kerrigan) Slattery and her husband, Joseph, Brian Kerrigan, and Warren Kerrigan and his wife, Lorie. Glenn was pre-deceased by his five uncles John, William, Joseph, Thomas and Richard Scanlon, his aunt Dorothy Kerrigan and his cousin, Jay Kerrigan. He also leaves many, many friends.
Glenn’s family would like to thank the staff of both the Northwood Rehabilitation and Health Care Center and Lowell General Hospital for the care and compassion given to him during his illness.
Relatives and friends are invited to Glenn’s Life Celebration on Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 4 until 7 pm at the McKENNA-OUELLETTE FUNERAL HOME, 327 Hildreth Street. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday morning, Sept. 14, at 10 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Tyngsboro. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in Glenn’s name may be made to: St. Vincent de Paul Society, Ste. Marguerite D’Youville Conference, 1340 Lakeview Ave., Dracut, MA 01826.
