DRACUT - Gilberto Diaz, age 72, a resident of Dracut and former resident of Lowell died Sunday, February 14th at Lowell General Hospital. He was the beloved companion for 30 years of the late Kathleen "Kay" Gagnon.
He was born Guaynabo, Puerto Rico on April 17, 1948, and was a son of the late Jesus Diaz and the late Adelina Ortiz. He received his education in Puerto Rico and New Jersey schools.
Prior to his retirement, Gilberto was employed for many years in the facilities and kitchen departments of the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford. He was previously employed for many years by Ideal Tape in Lowell.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed to fish at the Club Fleur De Lis. He enjoyed playing softball in his younger years. He also cherished his time with Tayla, Ava & Kelab.
Gilberto is survived by his son, Eddieberto Diaz and his partner of Wharton, NJ; his two daughters, Maritza Diaz of Hoboken, NJ and Sandra Diaz of Lowell, MA; his grandchildren, his brothers and sisters, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Gilberto will be forever remembered by his beloved extended family; the Gagnon family, the Brady family, the Andrade family; and the Molloy family. ,
He was also the father of the late Gilberto Diaz, Jr. and the late Heriberto Diaz.
It being his wish, there will be no visitation and his burial at St. Joseph Cemetery in Chelmsford will be private.
