Lowell - Germaine M. (Matteau) Pepin, 96, a resident of the Pawtucketville section of Lowell, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at a local healthcare facility with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Eugene E. "Ginger" Pepin.
Born in Lowell on April 28, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Napoleon and Delia (Marchand) Matteau.
Mrs. Pepin had worked at the former Capital and Stuart's Department Stores as a sales clerk.
She was a longtime communicant of the former St. Louis de France Church.
Active in the Lowell community, Germaine volunteered at C.T.I., Lowell General Hospital and Lowell Textile Museum.
Germaine loved being a foster grandparent for many years at the Greenhalge School in Lowell. It was because of her dedicated service as a foster grandparent, that she was honored by former Senators Bob Dole and John Glenn and the President's Council on Service & Civic Participation and she was awarded the council's President's Volunteer Service Award from President George W. Bush. She was honored when she received a greeting from the Massachusetts State House on her 95th birthday.
Germaine was an avid bowler and continued into her senior years.
Germaine's family would like to thank the staff of Northwood Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for the compassion and care that they showed to her and her family during her stay there.
Mrs. Pepin is survived by 4 sons and their spouses, Donald and Mary Pepin of Bluffton, SC, Louis and Carol Pepin of Dracut, Joseph and Connie Pepin of Pinellas Park, FL and Paul Pepin of Townsend; 2 daughters in-law, Gail Kucharski of Billerica and Catherine Pepin, formerly of Haverhill; 17 grandchildren; and many great, and great great grandchildren.
She was the mother of the late Gerard, Richard and Edward Pepin, and the grandmother of the late Barry Chevalier, Jr., and the sister of the late Raymond, Alphonse and Theodore Matteau, Rita Roy and Lillian Massicote.
