Gerard E. "Jerry" Hould

January 26, 1933 — November 22, 2014

Gerard E. Hould, a Dracut resident, died Saturday November 22, 2014, after a short battle with cancer. Mr. Hould was born to the late Joseph Hould and Claudia (Leblanc) Hould in Pittsfield, MA on January 26, 1933. He graduated from St. Joseph High School, Pittsfield, MA. He went on to further his education at Allied Technical Institute, Chicago, IL, Lowell Technical Institute, Lowell, MA and attended Fitchburg State College. He was a veteran of the Korean War from 1951 to 1955 and served in the Northeast Air Command at the Goose Bay Air Force Base, Labrador and Elgin Air Force Base, Florida. After serving in the Air Force, Gerard was employed for over 21 years for various companies in the roles of Designer, Designer Engineer and Quality Control Supervisor. He also worked for the Greater Lowell Technical High School as a Drafting and CADD teacher for 24 years.
His passion for sports was evident throughout his life. Mr. Hould was a sub varsity coach at Greater Lowell Technical High School for ten years. He also was coaching Baseball and Ice Hockey at many levels and serving as Vice President of the Dracut Baseball Association. In his high school years, he played three years of varsity baseball. In military he played for the base team located at Elgin Air Force Base. His ultimate prize was to play for the semi pro baseball team located in Dalton, MA. Gerard Hould has played on many softball teams in the following leagues; Old Industrial League from Lawrence, MA and the Dracut Softball Association. He also did some television commentary for Dracut Cable, for Dracut High School Field Hockey, Gymnastics and Ice Hockey.
Gerard Hould also had a taste for politics. His first elected post was for the Dracut Planning Board which he served for 14 years. During his time on the Planning Board, he also served on the Dracut School Building Committee. He was an active member of the Dracut Knights of Columbus, Centralville Sportsman's Club and American Legion Post 315.
Gerard Hould was married to the late Barbara (Flaro) Hould on October 5, 1952 who died November 22, 2009. He is survived by three children, Christopher J. Hould and his wife Paula (Montminy), their daughter Lauren and son Kyle of Dracut, Claudia Smith and her husband Gavin, their daughter Ava Rose of Playa del Ray, CA, and Gregory P. Hould and his wife Lisa (Balboni) and their children Logan, Noelle and Noah of Hudson, NH. He was the brother of Paul E. Hould of Laverne, CA. and the late Emelia Savoy. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
