Gerard J. Gervais

Dracut - Gerard J. Gervais, beloved husband of Rita P. (Grandchamp) Gervais, with whom he celebrated 62 years of marriage on November 17, a Dracut and York Beach, ME resident, formerly of Lowell, died Sunday December 21, 2008 at the Saints Medical Center. He was 86.
He was born in Lowell on November 14, 1922, a son of the late Almeda and Rose (Desaulnier) Gervais.
Gerry was a veteran of WWII having served in the Navy. Prior to his retirement in 1987 he served the city of Lowell as a firefighter for 27 years on engine 8.
In earlier years he graduated Lowell High School and from auto mechanic school. He also attended Advance Fire Control School in San Diego, CA.
An avid pilot, Gerry received his pilot license at age 16. He also enjoyed spending time at his residence at York Beach, ME for the past 31 years.
Gerry was a communicant of the former St. Louis de France Church, and currently St. Francis Parish in Dracut where he served as a Eucharistic Minister for several years. He was the Vice President of the Lowell Retired Firefighters Association. He also held membership in the Lowell Firefighters Union Local 853, the Retired State, County, and Municipal Employee Association, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Veterans of St. Louis, National Registry of Medical Technicians, and the Cape Neddick Country Club in Ogunquit, ME.
Surviving him besides his wife, are a sister in law, Alice Gervais of Chelmsford; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Arthur "Red" Gervais, Leo Gervais, and Madeline Russo, and brother in law of the late Gerard Grandchamp, Marietta Grandchamp, and Pauline Arpin.
